About Us
"To Enhance the Well Being of Our People and
To Revitalize our Indigenous Healing Tradition"
Established in 2005, Håya Cultural Heritage and Preservation Foundation is a 501(c) 3 non profit organization comprised of volunteers. Our Mission is "To Enhance the Well Being of Our People".
Haya Foundation is striving to reclaim, promote and revitalize our Indigenous Healing Tradition which sustained our people for over 4000 years! This tradition is at risk as part of the effects of colonization. We therefore hope to promote our Indigenous healing tradition is at risk! As part of our effort, we sponsored the First Amot Conference held in 2012. One of the resolutions that was passed was "To promote and perpetuate native healing systems through programming and policies in education, land use and health care initiatives."
Thus, our efforts to promote, preserve, protect and perpetuate our Indigenous healing tradition include, but are not limited to the following:
- The establishment of Guma Yo'Åmte, Guam's First Indigenous Healing Center for people desiring the alternative healing option and services offered by our indigenous healers,
- Developing curriculum for instruction in our Institutions of higher learning and our educational system
- Engaging our community through workshops, presentations, demonstrations and Outreach Programs,
- Research and education to further develop curriculum
- Publications of Åmot Series Books and Production of documentaries
- The ongoing effort to develop our apprenticeship program,
- Protecting, preserving our hålom tåno (jungles and its ecosystems),
- Åmot Walks to search for, identify and learn of the medicinal trees and plants and its uses
- Compilation and development of our Åmot Plant Registry
- Implementation of our Food is Medicine Program for sustainability.
- Encouraging and supporting our people studying to support our efforts
- Collaborations and Networking with other Indigenous Healers Regionally and Internationally
